Leicester Business Festival 2018

Charity To Sponsor Leicestershire Entrepreneurship Day

The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity is delighted to announce that it is to be the main sponsor for Leicestershire Entrepreneurship Day; an event hosted at De Montfort University’s Student Union on Tuesday 5 November that will form part of the Leicester Business Festival.

Organised by De Montfort University’s DMUWorks, the event, running from 9.00am to 6.00pm, will consist of a day of inspirational guest speakers, panel Q&As, live and pre-recorded interviews, and networking.

The event will also provide an opportunity to celebrate local entrepreneurial successes and to inspire delegates through individuals from outside the region sharing their stories.

One of Leicestershire’s oldest charities, The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity provides business loans of up to £20,000 to individuals aged over 18 and under the age of 45. Unique in their nature, the loans are completely interest-free for a nine-year period, with equal monthly repayments commencing three years after loans are taken out.

As part of the event, The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity’s patron, Barrie Stephen – Managing Director of Barrie Stephen Salons, will be one of the guest speakers. Having taken out an interest-free loan from the charity in 1995 to open his first salon in Anstey, the Barrie Stephen Salon group now has a presence in five locations across Leicestershire; in addition to a dual brand, B-Styled.

The charity will also be providing those in attendance with key details, feedback and directions for additional advice should they wish to apply for financial support.

Leicestershire Entrepreneurship Day aims to provide delegates with inspiration, motivation, ideas, tips and networking opportunities with some of the region’s most exciting businesses.

David Howard, Chair of Trustees at The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, said: “We’re proud to be involved in Leicestershire Entrepreneurship Day and would like to thank DMUWorks for the opportunity to be involved in a fantastic event that ties in perfectly with what we’re all about as a charity. I hope that the event provides a huge amount of value to those in attendance and we look forward to informing as many aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners as possible about the unique interest-free loans available from The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, which are now available to more people than ever since we extended the age range criteria to people under the age of 45.”

Simon Baines, De Montfort University’s DMUworks Enterprise Manager, added: “I have long enjoyed a fantastic relationship with The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity and so I am thrilled they are supporting our very first Entrepreneurship Day. This is going to be an ambitious and exciting day, with something for everybody. We have a whole host of exciting speakers which we can’t wait to announce, including beneficiaries of the charity itself. Bringing students together with the local business community in such an inspiring way is what we’re all about.”
