STWLC Extends Age Criteria To Provide Wider Support

The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity is delighted to announce a dramatic change to a key element of its eligibility criteria, which will make the charity’s interest-free business and education loans available to more people within Leicestershire and Rutland.

As of Thursday 1 August, applications will be welcomed from individuals aged over 18 and under the age of 45; increasing the eligibility window by 10 years, with the previous age limit for applicants being under the age of 35.

Following a series of events in which The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity communicated with members of the public and prospective borrowers, the charity’s board of trustees saw the importance of extending the age limit, with many interested individuals falling just outside of the previous ‘under-35’ criteria.

This move by The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, which has officially been approved by the Charity Commission, will now ensure that more people across Leicestershire and Rutland have access to the charity’s unique interest-free loans of up to £20,000 to help start or develop businesses within the county, or £10,000 to help fund the costs associated with postgraduate studies.

David Howard, Chair of Trustees at The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, said: “Having spoken to many people across a series of events throughout Leicestershire and Rutland, it became clear that a vast number of individuals are looking into the possibility of starting their own business ventures later in life. Some individuals are arriving later into their chosen industry, whilst others were looking to become self-employed after taking a break to start a family.

“The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity has always been committed to ensuring that people within Leicestershire and Rutland have access to interest-free loans to help maximise their potential; whether that be in business or education. Once it became clear that the previous age criteria prevented a number of people from having that access, the charity was excited by the prospect of changing that.

“Now that our loans are available to people aged over 18 and under the age of 45, we hope to see an increase in the number of people applying for one of our interest-free loans, as we aim to boost the local economy through supporting the number of new and developing businesses within Leicestershire and Rutland.”

The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity’s next quarterly deadline for applications is Tuesday 1 October 2019. Application packs can be accessed through completing a contact form at the links below, or by contacting the charity via email at info@stwcharity.co.uk
