Three students from The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity’s scholarship programme attended the Charity’s quarterly meeting on Monday 5 December to meet with Trustees and discuss their progress.
Charity Attends Event Highlighting Student Innovation
Student innovation was thrust into the spotlight at a special event designed by University of Leicester School of Business (ULSB) entrepreneurs on Friday, which The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity was proud to be a part of.
As part of the event, Clerk to the Trustees of The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, Sarah Hope, spoke to those in attendance about the unique interest-free loans available through the charity.
Students from the Entrepreneurship and Innovation MSc programme worked with experts from the Leicester Innovation Hub to highlight the support available for new and existing businesses in Leicester.
Support for Student Entrepreneurs Gets £10,000 Boost
Support for student entrepreneurship at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) has been given a £10,000 funding boost from The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity.
DMUworks Enterprise & Entrepreneurship, part of the university’s Student and Academic Services (SAAS) directorate, has teamed up with Sir Thomas White Loan Charity to support a series of events which aim to inspire students, graduates and staff.
The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, which dates back to 1542, provides interest-free loans for people aged 18-45 who set up business in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland. It has been a long-standing supporter of DMU students and graduates but this is the largest donation it has ever made to the university.
Ten Loans Approved in Latest Quarter by The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity
The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity is pleased to reveal that a total of £101,300 was approved in interest-free loans for people in Leicestershire in the third quarter of 2021.
One of the county’s oldest charities, having been established in 1542, The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity provides interest-free loans to people within Leicestershire and Rutland, either to fund postgraduate education or to enable people to start or develop businesses.
In the latest quarter, three business ventures are set to benefit from a collective £40,000, including a beauty salon and café.
Scholarship Beneficiary Humzah Heading to Oxford
The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity is delighted to learn that a recipient of one of the charity’s scholarships is to take up a place at Christ Church College, Oxford, after obtaining exemplary grades in his A Levels.
Humzah Ali, who utilised the charity’s scholarship to study A Levels at Ratcliffe College, achieved a full set of A* grades in French, English Literature and History.
The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity’s scholarship programme enables high performing pupils within schools across Leicestershire and Rutland the opportunity to enrol at independent schools for the duration of their A Levels.
Humzah is the second Sir Thomas White Loan Charity scholar attending Ratcliffe College to obtain a place at Oxbridge, following in the footsteps of Hebe Jackson, who went on to study Modern and Medieval Languages at King’s College Cambridge last year.
