The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity continued their support of budding Leicestershire-based entrepreneurs last week, attending Loughborough University’s Think BIG Awards; a celebration of student and graduate enterprise.
Taking place at Loughborough University on Wednesday 25th June, a sizable audience joined together to acknowledge a huge selection innovative projects developed by the university’s current students, alongside those that have recently graduated.
The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity sponsored the Manufacturing and Technology Award, which was presented to Susan Shelley for her business, Noux; a high-end design house specialising in innovative pet products and accessories.
Gau Naik, one of the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity’s newest Trustees, presented Susan with her award on the evening.
Noux’s flagship product, Avo, is one that has become the recipient of much acclaim. Avo, a 15-litre self-maintaining fish tank, features automated lighting, heating and filter systems, in addition to a modular planting framework that makes it easy to set-up, maintain and use.
Avo is scheduled to be market-ready within the next two years, with other items for cats, dogs and small animals set to be added to Noux’s range in future.
The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity Manufacturing and Technology Award is the latest accolade for Susan, who received the Special Recognition Award at the EUWIIN International Awards last year.
“I am absolutely thrilled that Noux was awarded the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity Manufacturing and Technology Award at Think Big 2014.
“The prize money will make a huge difference, helping to pay for prototypes and for a trade show later in the year. It’s also a great confidence boost, knowing that the business proposition for Noux has potential makes me even more determined to get Noux’s first product launched.”
Hugh Stevenson, Chairman of the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, added:
“The Think BIG Awards are a fantastic way to acknowledge the excellent business start-ups, products and concepts that have stemmed through studies at Loughborough University – and the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity is proud to support them.
“As we provide interest-free loans to young people within the county, to assist with business start-ups or post-graduate study, the Think BIG Awards celebrate a number of factors that the Charity aims to support.
“Congratulations to Susan on receiving the Manufacturing and Technology Award, which is thoroughly deserved for a wonderful business concept and innovative product.”
