In order to prepare for a challenging career within the legal sector, postgraduate study is a prerequisite, with any individual targeting a career as a solicitor required to complete the Legal Practice Course.
Thanks in part of an interest-free education loan from The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, Jessica Bass was able to enrol on the Legal Practice Course in her pursuit of a legal career. Born and raised in South Leicestershire, Jessica studied law at the University of Leicester.
Identifying a career direction isn’t always straightforward. For many, it takes time and life experience to realise exactly what it is you wish to do.
It’s an added benefit to continuing studies beyond undergraduate level; something that Sir Thomas White Loan Charity education loan borrower Greg Curtis can identify with.
Greg, from Oadby, knew what interested him and the kind of area he wanted to work in, but didn’t have a specific job role or specialist field in mind.
“I always had an interest in property and construction, but I did not know what direction I wanted to go in when applying for UCAS,” explains Greg. “There was such a breadth of curses on offer in a very diverse industry and it felt intimidating, as I did not want to pick the wrong career path. I wanted to explore different options and gain more experience of the industry, as well as develop a broader range of skills generally.”
Aside from being completely interest-free, a key benefit of The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity’s education loans, available to the value of £10,000, is that they can be used to support the cost of study anywhere in the world – not just in Leicester where the Charity is based.
For many, studying for a postgraduate qualification is key to working within a chosen field, opening doors to opportunities and experiences that may otherwise be closed. In the case of education borrower Charis Ringland (pictured, centre), she has been able to enjoy both as she works towards a career in science.
Suhail Alloo’s aim was always clear – to become a qualified lawyer.
As any qualified lawyer will testify, it’s a challenging journey that requires commitment, hard work and – naturally – the successful pursuit of key qualifications through education. That’s why Suhail got in touch with The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity and successfully applied for an interest-free education loan.
Having the opportunity to study for a post-graduate qualification opens a host of doors when it comes to commencing a career. However, for many, the cost of continuing study beyond graduation provides a stumbling block – which is why The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity provides education loans that are interest-free for nine years.
Hajra Okhai is a perfect example of somebody eager to continue studying so that she could enter her chosen career. Hajra, from Leicester, initially commenced work for a large industrial company prior to making the decision to study for a post-graduate degree.

“It is unfounded that I am ever lost for words, yet here I am, a month into my MRes and I am still struggling to find the sentences to express my feelings towards the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity.
