Hitting The Right Note

Music tuition is a common experience for children throughout their school years and a lot of those stories are very similar.

Using rented equipment in a one-on-one session with a tutor, prodigy musicians make their way through the seemingly never-ending list of grades and qualifications – the exact experience that Mike Heaps of Room For Music had. That was until he decided to do something about it and revolutionise music teaching for the next generation.

He said: “Room for Music was established about eight years ago now. My goal was to provide an alternative approach to music tuition and specifically contemporary music tuition.

“Rather than one-on-one lessons, which is how most young people learn an instrument, I wanted to focus more around a group workshop style of teaching. I was trying to encourage those kids that were sat in their bedrooms and playing drums or guitar on their own to come together, start a band and get out there gigging and performing as real musicians.”

12 Interest-Free Loans Approved By Leicester Charity

The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity is pleased to announce that a total of £140,879 was approved in interest-free business and education loans at the culmination of the final quarter of 2019.

This figure is the sum of 12 loans approved in December 2019, with five education loans totalling £39,000 complemented by an additional £101,879 approved across seven interest-free loans to help start-up or develop businesses in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity Appoints New Trio Of Trustees To Board

The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity is delighted to announce the appointments of Sue Cleminson, Mark Shelton and Greg Hollingsworth to the charity’s Board of Trustees.

Boasting a wealth of experience across varied areas of business, the three new trustees will work as part of a Board of Trustees totalling 18 members, overseeing the operation of one of the oldest charities in the city of Leicester. Amongst their roles, the three new trustees will form part of panels conducting interviews with prospective borrowers, in addition to visiting the business ventures of those successful in their application.

It was to unknowingly kick-start the prelude to a chapter, which would see Keilly become her own boss and establish her growing business, Mad About Nature, which makes luxurious all-natural handmade soaps.

Keilly’s daughter was born with eczema and fuelled a passion to start using natural skincare products which she knew would be free from harsh chemicals and unnecessary synthetic ingredients which dry-out and damage skin. On a trip to London’s Covent Garden, Keilly discovered a homemade soap stall which would change her life.

Sir Thomas White Loan Charity Ambassador Lee Tomes has benefited from both forms of interest-free investment available from the charity.

Having initially engaged with the charity to take out an education loan to fund his postgraduate study in London, Lee – having returned to Leicester following his studies – set up Orange Fox Studios.

The video production agency, based in Phoenix Square in Leicester’s city centre, thrived. However, Lee wanted to be able to offer clients an enhanced service and product. As a side note, Lee also wanted to be able to focus on being able to work on projects that enabled him to utilise his creativity and skillset to the fullest. In order to deliver all of that, he required additional investment.

Provided that the business has been running for four years or less and that an applicant meets the other necessary criteria, the Charity’s investment of up to £20,000 is on offer.

Hannah, a dancer and dance teacher, set up her studio – Skytribe – with the help of a small loan, but later found that additional work was required to bring the premises up to the standards she desired – which is where The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity came in.
