Back in 2004 Matt Pantling turned his love for DJing into a business as he started up Dancefloor DJs.
His business offers a professional and talented DJ and mobile disco set-up with music to suit anyone’s taste, helping to create truly unforgettable events.
The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity helped self-taught DJ Matt to expand his business by loaning him the funds to buy a new van, allowing him to tackle larger events and provide a wider range of services.
Matt saw a gap in the market for DJs a little bit different from the stereotypical party DJs you get at most weddings, birthdays or other celebrations.
Matt said: “I started the business back in 2004 after learning to DJ using Vinyl decks. The reason I started the business was that I always had a strong passion for music. I felt there was a need in the market for a young mobile DJ and not the typical old fashioned wedding DJ type.
“The business is unique as we actually listen to the client’s needs and let them decide the music they want for their event and there in no ‘DJ knows best’ policy. Also, all the DJs are aged between 25 and 30 years old.”
Dancefloor DJs mainly focus on providing entertainment at weddings and corporate events. Before any event they work at they offer fact-to-face meetings to ensure that customers get exactly what they want and that they set the perfect mood for any occasion.
Matt said: “The business is doing really well at the moment focusing mainly on the wedding and corporate market. We currently work with two really popular wedding venues on a regular basis and do many corporate events for well-known brands around the East Midlands.”
Dancefloor DJs’ corporate clients include Marks and Spencer, Vue Cinemas, Walkers Crisps, Leicester College and the University of Leicester to name but a few.
Matt always knew he wanted to be his own boss and says what he enjoys most about running his own business is the freedom it gives him: “I have worked for many different employers over the years but my goal was always to be my own boss and work for myself, which gives me a real buzz. The best thing about being my own boss is I make the decisions and no one tells me what to do.”
Another example of how doing something different can be a great tactic for success, Matt’s business is going from strength to strength and he hope to continue expanding: “The plans for the future are to employ more professional DJs to work for us and to offer our clients more exciting products to hire for their next event.”
