STWLC Sponsors Designer Award

The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, one of Leicestershire’s oldest charities which provide interest-free business and education loans to young people in the county, further enhanced its reputation in supporting entrepreneurs through the sponsorship of Young Designer of the Year from Leicestershire & Rutland accolade as part of the Rotary District 1070 Young Designer of the Year competition.

Held at De Montfort University on 16 June, 60 students from across Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire gathered to present their designs, all of them shortlisted through competitions hosted by schools. Organised by the Rotary Club of Leicester, the showcase for the design and technological skills of the young designers produced some wonderful ideas – with valuable prizes awarded.

Designs varied from textiles, electrics, hard resistant materials such as wood, glass and metals, and graphics, resulting in a challenge for judges to select the winning entries.

The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity-sponsored Young Designer of the Year from Leicestershire & Rutland was presented to Lucy Ring, for the design of her brilliant temporary shelter for refugees. Lucy was awarded a £500 voucher to spend on Amazon.

Congratulations to Lucy and to all of the finalists in attendance.
