1. One of the UK's most successful electrical retailers Currys began life with a loan of £100 from the Sir Thomas White Charity in February 1902. The original loan was made to Henry Curry Jnr to open a shop outlet from which to manufacture and sell bicycles, this in later years becoming the electrical store we now know. - Leicester Mercury 2/2/04
